SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — A local bank that deals with green is now going green with its most recent branch.

PeoplesBank held a ribbon cutting for a new branch Thursday, which is the city’s first Green Seal bank. The bank’s construction should save on heat, water and electricity, according to the company.

Local officials, including Mayor Domenic Sarno, and representatives from area organizations were on hand for the official opening of PeoplesBank’s 16th branch Thursday. Several local groups and organizations will be getting a donation from the bank as part of the celebration.

The bank hopes to open two similar branches in the near future.
