Northampton Superintendent to leave office

By Ryan Trowbridge

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WGGB) – The Northampton Superintendent of Schools has announced that she will step down from her post after the 2010-2011 academic year.

Supt. Isabelina Rodriguez says in a prepared statement that she will not be seeking to have her contract renewed.  She adds that she has “met many of my professional goals while in Northampton” and is “ready to pursue new and different challenges and career opportunities.”

When discussing the future of the district, Rodriguez says “because of her commitment to the City,” Rodriguez makes this announcement one year in advance so that the city may have “the opportunity to plan for a replacement” and that it is her intention “to assist the district during this transition”

When her contract expires in 2011, she will have worked in the school district for 17 years.
