Cathedral High School evacuated moments before Commencement

By WGGB Staff

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – Cathedral High School graduated the class of 2010 Friday, but not before a fire evacuation gave an unusual end to a class that has persevered through tragedy.

The call came in around 10:45 Friday morning, just as students, parents, and faculty were getting ready for Commencement exercises.

Officials on scene said Friday a mechanical fire on the second floor of the school that set off the alarm. Approximately 30 minutes later, everyone was let back into the school to resume graduation.

Those in attendance said they would carry with them the memory of their fallen classmate, Conor Reynolds, who was murdered while attending a party.
