Springfield charter school loses bid to stay open

by Rachel Domings:

SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WGGB) — The Robert M. Hughes Academy Charter School has been told by Superior Court that is must close its doors.

Judge Regina Quinlan at the Suffolk Superior Court denied the schools request to block the state mandated shutdown.

Judge Quinlan says that the department of Elementary and Secondary Education was justified in their decision to revoke the schools charter after a 2009 MCAS scandal.

The school will be completely closed by September and those students who had enrolled for the fall will now need to make other plans.

We attempted to reach the school for comment, but no calls have been returned at this time.
