SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Fire crews are still trying to put out a fire at a mill in the Indian Orchard section of Springfield.
Fire officials say that the fire broke out at Building No. 5 of the Indian Orchard Mills complex around 2:30 p.m Thursday. Approximately 50 firefighters are on-scene fighting the fire.
Around 4:00 p.m., flames were seen shooting out of one side of the building after firefighters tore off part of the building’s siding.
It is a three-story mill that housed an antiques dealer on the first floor, and storage space in parts of the second floor and most of the third floor.
Springfield Fire officials say tell abc40 and FOX 6′s Jeff Valin that firefighters will likely be out at the mill most of the night.
No injuries have been reported.
Valin reports that there are some discrepancies over whether sprinklers in building were working at the time of the fire. Springfield Fire says that sprinklers were working, but people associated with the mill say that an order was given within the last week to shut down the sprinklers due to freezing concerns.
abc40 and FOX 6 has several crews at the scene and will have updates as they become available.
