Student of Character – Kathleen Toomey

By: Jenna Hagist

HUNTINGTON, Mass. (WGGB) — Kathleen Toomey’s passion is singing, but it’s her leadership and academic excellence that are hitting high notes.

She is the show choir president at Gateway Regional High School. “I love it! I wouldn’t be able to get through a day without going to choir and singing. It really is the best part of the day like we always say,” said Toomey.

Her choir teacher Jerilyn Beauregard says she has always been a role model in the classroom. “She has good ideas, she’s been a soloist. She has been a leader for our younger students, she sets a great example,” said Beauregard.

It’s her leadership and commitment to school activities that has made her such a well rounded student. “I’m involved in soccer, basketball, show choir, concert choir. I also take part in the drama club,” added Toomey.

With such a busy schedule, Kathleen said its only going to prepare her for the future. “I think that is going to help me at college a lot because there’s so much going on in college. Being so busy now is just a prelude to real life,” continued Toomey. “She’s accomplished things well here at Gateway and whatever makes her happy in the future, go for it,” added Beauregard.

That’s why Kathleen Toomey is this weeks abc40 Student of Character.
