Extreme Makeover Home Edition Returns to WMass

SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WGGB) — Two years ago, Extreme Makeover Home Edition built a brand new home for the Hill family in Suffield, Connecticut.

Friday morning on the steps of Springfield City Hall, Mayor Domenic Sarno announced that the makeover team will be coming to Springfield in the next few weeks to surprise a family in need.

Sarno said, “It’s good for putting Springfield on the national map. We just finished last weekend with the National Hall of Fame basketball enshrinement. It’s good for economic development. I think it builds on the resiliency of the Springfield people. The devastating tornado we had and the resiliency and how we’ve been able to bounce back and continue to move the city.”

It’s not known if the rebuild will involve a family whose home was hit by the June 1st tornado. We’ll find that out Sunday, September 11th when the Home Makeover team knocks on the door of the family getting the new home.

N Riley Construction of Chicopee will be the contractor. Company president and owner Nicholas Riley told abc40, “We don’t have much time to put this together, so we’re looking for all the help we can get in volunteers out there. But it’s coming together well and I’m looking forward to it.

Reily and the mayor have put out a call for volunteers. If you’re interested, log on to joinextreme.com/mass.
