Dam Problems Reported Across Western Mass.

REGION (WGGB) — Due to the amount of water sent down from Irene, pressure has been added to a number of area dams, creating flooding situations.

Mass. State Police Spokesperson Dave Procopio tells abc40 and FOX 6 that in the Berkshire County town of Becket, a damn in the area of the Sherwood Forest neighborhood “has burst causing localized flooding”.  He adds that thankfully, “the area is not densely populated”.

Further north, in the Franklin County town of Rowe, the Bear Swamp Dam has spilled over, “causing localized flooding as well from the Deerfield River,” Procopio adds.

In both instances, Procopio says that Mass. State Police are assisting in both locations.
