Extreme Makeover: Home Edition – Day 1: Family Revealed

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — After weeks of anticipation, the Springfield family that has been chosen for a new home by “Extreme Makeover Home Edition” has been revealed.

Shortly before 11:00 a.m. on a bright Sunday morning, Ty Pennington and his team of designers surprised Sirdeaner Walker and her family at their Northampton Street home.

Sirdeaner’s son, Carl Walker-Hoover, killed himself in his home on April 6, 2009 after alleged relentless bullying at the hands of his classmates.

According to show producers, the family has not been able to go back up to the third floor of their home, where he killed himself, since his death.

Because of this, Sirdeaner and her two kids have been sleeping in the living room on a couch and two rollaway beds. They also have been forced to store their daily personal belongings, including clothes, into plastic containers and bags, creating very cramped quarters.

Carl’s grandmother also lives at the home but can’t physically access the second floor because of the stairs.

Chicopee contractor Nick Riley of N. Riley Construction, along with “Extreme Makeover Home Edition” design team of Michael Moloney, Tracy Hutson, Jillian Harris, and John Littlefield have one week to complete the home while the Walker’s are away on a vacation to Hollywood.

abc40 and FOX 6 will be there throughout the week, covering the build. Stay tuned for our reports all week on abc40 and FOX 6 News.
