Crime Files- Joel Torres

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — “We’re looking for someone involved in a “bike jacking”, you always hear about a car jacking,” said Springfield Police Sergeant Delaney.

This was a bike jacking and cops say this guy 23-year old Joel Torres is their man. It happened on August 31st.

Police say Torres approached a 23-year old on a 10-speed bike on Pine Street. The victim knew the man approaching him by his street name “Leonardo.”

“He asked the guy to get off the bike. He said no. Then he pulled out a switch blade put it up to his neck and said get off the bike now. So he gingerly got off the bike, the blade still to his neck and actually cut his neck a little, handed over the bike and Leonardo took off,” added Delaney.

The victim called police from his cell phone. Cops searched the area but never found the “Bike Bandit”.

“The victim cooperated with police, went to police station and looked through a slew of pictures and here’s Leonardo. It’s really Joel Torres,” said Delaney.

Police say Torres lives in Springfield and they still believe he’s in the city.

“If he’s robbing bikes by knife point who knows what else he’ll do, so we want to get this guy off the street,” added Delaney.

So keep your eyes open in case you cross paths with this wanted “bike jacker”, your tip could help lock him up.
