CHICOPEE, Mass (WGGB) — The weather is changing and so are the leaves on the trees. But the one thing that never seems to change is the athletic tradition in the City of Chicopee.
And this Fall senior soccer sensation Natalie Laurin is continuing that proud home town tradition.
Natalie was a preseason member of the ‘Super Seven’, and this weeks she’s this weeks ABC40/Fox6 Athlete of the Week.
“I really think she, it’s the self drive to always do better,” said Chicopee senior Taylor McAndrew. “To score another goal or to out run the player.”
“That motivation from her rubs off on the other players. So not only does it make her the best and shine on the field, but it also allows or program to look good as well.”
And if that’s what Natalie Laurin’s teammates are saying about her, you can only imagine what the competition is saying about this all-around prime-time performer.
Natalie Laurin is a senior captain on the Chicopee Pacer girls soccer team. The hat trick she posted against Palmer last week earned Chicopee its sixth win of the season.
Last season Natalie added an All-State honor to a resume that already boasted two All-Western Mass nominations.
And keep in mind, she took up soccer, not for the love of the game, but because she thought it was something that might challenge her.
“I guess it just intrigued me,” said Laurin. “It was a challenge. When I first started the girls I was playing with, they already knew about soccer. They knew what they were doing.”
“I wasn’t used to being behind, especially in the classroom, and I wasn’t used to being the one who didn’t know what was going on. I think it was a challenge for me and I wanted to prove something to myself. So I just stuck with it.”
“Natalie is an excellent leader both on and off the field,” said Taylor McAndrew. “She’s been on the varsity program for four years now, so she’s really had the experience.”
“But even in the classroom and on the field she has a great work ethic. She’s always working hard in practice. In school with her academics as an honor student and a National Honor Society member. She’s really a great role model for everyone.”
Aside from her accomplishments on the soccer field, Natalie also competes in three indoor track events during the winter. And in the classroom she’s lights out.
Natalie is a straight ‘A’ student who boasts a 99 average. She’s ranked eleventh in a class of two hundred and seventy four, and she’s the Editor-in-Chief of the schools yearbook.
Where does she get her drive to be the best? From her mom and dad of course.
“I like to make them proud, I definitely do,” said Natalie. “It’s a challenge balancing everything in your life. But sports and school, a job, everything. ”
“But I really think they’re the driving factor behind everything that I do. I really want to make them proud.”
Making her family, team, and community proud. Chicopee’s Natalie Laurin is this weeks ABC40/Fox6 Athlete of the Week.
