Columbus Day Secrets in Western Mass
SOUTHWICK, Mass. (WGGB) — Columbus Day Weekend in Western Massachusetts typically means a lot of traffic on the local highways and byways. However there are always some local farms and pumpkin patches that are off the beaten path.
For a new corn maze, check out Mikey’s Corn Maze off of Route 57 in Southwick. The maze is tucked away from the bigger cities and towns in the Western Mass, and is a family owned business.
“Now you don’t have to drive an hour and a half to go find [a corn maze] anymore,” Owner Mike Calabrese said. “There all local, I mean I got this one here in Southwick, MA nice and close right down the road.”
But don’t stop there.
Down the road in Granville this weekend is the 30th annual Harvest Fair which showcases plenty of locally grown and made goods. And if you’re in the area, check out Nesterovich Farms in Granville as well.
But if you’re into some great mums or squash, be sure to visit Jasmine Gardens on you’re way back. Another family-owned farm that keeps its goal simple: fresh and for the family.
“It seems the farms we have in my opinion have the fresher produce and fresher fruits to offer,” said Janet Blakely of Jasmine Gardens. “Along with other farms of course, I think people are becoming more family oriented these days.”
