SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts (WGGB) — The StormTrack forecast calls for colder weather and in some spots, snow! We want to make sure no child goes without a warm winter coat. So we’ve been collecting coats for kids for the Salvation Army. Those new and gently used coats need to be cleaned. And again this year, Belmont Laundry is cleaning them all, for free. Derek Samble of Belmont Laundry says his customers come through year after year. “Our over the counter retail customers, we see the same folks every year that do go out and they buy something in various sizes, sometimes they bring in two, three, four a piece.”
Samble estimates they’ve cleaned between 50 to 60 thousand coats over the years and plan to continue to do for years to come.
There’s just a week left in this year’s Coats for Kids drive. You can drop off your new or gently used winter coats at Belmont Laundry, any Berkshire Bank branch or our abc40 studios on Liberty Street in Springfield.
