CHICOPEE, Mass. (WGGB) — Walmart released its prices for Black Friday two weeks in advance.
The unusually early release of the prices shows signs that Walmart is expecting a big Christmas shopping season. A.I.C. economics professor John Rogers says that he thinks the the company decided to give out the sales to stir up excitement.
“Retailers really need a good Christmas season,” said Rogers. “This is just another way to jazz it up.”
Consumers however are undecided on the upcoming shopping holiday.
“It’s just too much of a crowd, I enjoy crowds honestly,” said one shopper. “I love going to the mall when its packed, but the day after Thanksgiving — this kind of a thing is just a little much for me.”
Walmart released a statement on the early prices:
“We released our savings early this year and directly to customers in order to help them better plan their Christmas shopping. We understand that every penny counts and by sharing our Black Friday specials earlier than ever, we hope to make buying decisions easier for parents working hard to give their families the Christmas they deserve. We believe that no other retailer is better positioned to succeed. We cannot share any financial projections.”
