Mighty Macy a Tough Little Kitten

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — She’s packed a lot in to her four months, though some of it not enviable.  Her name is Macy, and she’s waiting for adoption at the Thomas J. O’Connor Animal Control & Adoption Center in Springfield.

“Our little friend Macy has been through some tough times,” the Center’s Pam Peebles told ABC40 Thursday, describing what animal rescuers discovered when they found the stray little orange tabby on a Springfield street in November.

“We sure weren’t prepared for what we saw.  Macy was a little one-and-a-half-pound kitten that was severely burned over three-quarters of her body.”

Veterinarians weren’t sure Macy would survive.  In fact, there was little they could discern about her, including the cause of her injuries.

“We don’t know if it was human caused or something such as a fan belt injury in a car,” Peebles said.

Macy has all the energy and curiosity you’d expect from any kitten.  In fact, the only two things missing are a little fur – but that’s growing back nicely so far – and her singing voice.  This wee domestic short-hair doesn’t ‘meow’ very often.  Nevertheless, her little engine is always running.

“One thing about her,” Peebles told ABC40, “is she’s never quit purring through all of her treatments.  She’ll probably have some lingering scars, physically anyway.  Emotionally, we think she’s healed one-hundred percent.”

Even btter, Macy has been spayed and her shots are all up-to-date.  Peebles says the possibility remains of the kitten needing a bit more veterinary follow-up for her scars, but she’s hopeful that won’t be the case.

Macy isn’t alone, of course.  At any given time the O’Connor Center is filled to near-capacity with cats and dogs.  If you’re considering adoption, call (413) 781-1484, or go on line to www.tjoconnoradoptioncenter.com.
