Slow go for AM Commute

The wet snow arrived on time just after midnight and has left anywhere from a coating to 1″ of snow here in the Pioneer Valley.  It is a slushy snow so it’s not sticking to all road surfaces.  Nonetheless, watch for slush and icy spots on the way to work and school on sidewalks and parking lots in particular.  The wet snow will change over to rain by dawn in most of the Pioneer Valley.

Snow Accumulations Early Thursday:  Coating -1″ central/lower Pioneer Valley, 1-3″ in northern/elevated locations.

Rain will taper off to drizzle this afternoon but more rain showers develop early Friday morning as an upper level impulse swings through.  The rain showers will change over to snow showers and even a heavier snow squall during the mid-day Friday.  An additional light accumulation of snow (coating-1″) is possible in the valleys with an inch or two more in the hills is expected as the upper-level energy swings through.  Some partial clearing takes place later Friday but then the winds crank up!
