UMass Plans to Expand Presence in Pioneer Valley

HOLYOKE (WGGB) – The President of UMass, Robert L. Caret was in Holyoke Thursday morning speaking to the Greater Holyoke Chamber of Commerce about how the institution plans to broaden it’s presence in the region.

“We can be partners with state and local governments, business and industry in marketing the region in these key sectors.” Caret says.

By key sectors, he references growing innovation economy-based companies, building upon already operational information technology businesses in the area, as well as those involved with clean energy, manufacturing and life sciences.

Caret says during his 4-day tour of university campuses this past October, a lot of people in Western Mass were commenting on how they wish the institution would ‘do more’. He says while it’s something he wants to do, it won’t be easy and won’t be accomplished without the collaboration of different parties.

“We can’t do it all alone.” Caret stresses to Abc40. “We can play a big role, we’re a big institution.”

Plans include include finishing the Mass Green High Performance Computing Center, a project valued at 168-million dollars. Also, supporting Springfield’s high-speed data center as a good place for companies to research green power options.

You guys need a decent copy editor. You wrote, “…to broaden it’s presence in the region.”

[how they wish the institution would ‘do more’.]

The period goes inside the single quote mark, not outside. This article contains several errors in sentence construction.

Perhaps UMass can broaden it’s (sic) presence to include the WGGB newsroom.
