Springfield, Mass. (WGGB) – A number of purebred Irish Setters that were rescued from a Hampshire County resident’s home today were taken to Dakin Humane Society in Springfield.

MSPCA Law Enforcement received a call from a concerned citizen regarding several dogs in Hampshire County.  Upon visiting the home in question, the MSPCA was able to rescue 20 purebred Irish setters; 10 adults and 10 four-week old puppies.  The owner recognized she was overwhelmed and voluntarily surrendered the dogs.

 The MSPCA asked Dakin for their assistance and the shelter agreed to take in 15 of the 20 dogs including five adults and ten puppies.  One of the adult dogs is the mother of the puppies.  They arrived at Dakin this afternoon around 3:30 p.m.  

Candy Lash told abc40, “They are a little thin, and some of the dogs had fecal matter on them.  Overall though, their health appears to be fine, but we won’t know for sure until they are medically evaluated.” 

Lash says after their medical evaluations they will be placing the puppies and their mother into foster care and the remaining four adult dogs will be held until their ready for adoption.

“We will not be entertaining any applications on these dogs until their ready for adoption and then at that time they’ll appear on our website,” added Lash.
