Hiker Rescued From Bare Mountain

AMHERST, MASS (WGGB) — Firefighters rescued a man from Bare Mountain in Amherst Thursday morning.

They say the man was hiking with a woman around 11:30 Wednesday night, when he somehow slipped and fell 25 feet.

The woman called 911, and it took rescue crews several hours to get the man out from the spot he fell.

They actually needed a pulley to get him out.

An Amherst Police officer was injured making the rescue. The officer will be out of work for at least a week with neck and back injuries.

The unidentified man has been taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield; firefighters describe his injuries as non-life threatening.
