Warm Winter Stalls Auto Repairs

CHICOPEE (WGGB) – Everyone in New England is feeling the effects of an abnormally warm winter season; in particular, auto repairmen.

Abc40 visited Brad’s Service Center in Chicopee Monday. Manager Chris Steele says the amount of business they usually have for this time of the year is incredibly low.

“Every season in this business you prepare for something.” Steele explains. “It’s winter, okay there is going to snow tire sales, front end damage, winter wiper blades. And when you don’t have it,  you have to rethink how you’re operating the business.”

In fact, when it comes to winter maintenance issues the most those at Brad’s have seen was during the October snow storm. Steele says the warmer weather has meant a slight drop in revenue. Another downside he says, is many people are forgoing their usual winter car check-ups because they aren’t desperately needed.

“With an economy like this, people aren’t going to spend money unless they have to.” Steele says.

He says because of this, an issue with a car (tire wear, power steering fluid levels, etc..) may not be caught – and if left festering, possibly landing the driver with a much bigger problem later in the year.
