John Ramsey’s Journey from Grief to Hope
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — It’s been 16 years since JonBenet Ramsey was found dead in the basement of her family’s Boulder, Colorado, home the day after Christmas. For years, Boulder police suspected the Ramseys killed their 6 year old daughter. But in 2008, police cleared them of any wrongdoing and issued an apology.
In his newly released book, The Other Side of Suffering, John Ramsey talks about his journey from grief to hope. In a one on one interview with Dave Madsen, Ramsey said, “I made a number of mistakes. I did some things wrong. I wish I’d have had some advice, that at least I can give other people now.”
Madsen asked Ramsey what he thought was the biggest mistake he made, Ramsey said, “After tragedy strikes, do the best you can to put your life in park. Don’t make big decisions, don’t make big changes, don’t, particularly big financial decisions. A friend of mine put it very well. He said be careful, your sword is now dull. And what he meant was your ability to make big decisions was impaired.”
JonBenet’s mother Patsy Ramsey died of ovarian cancer in 2006, without knowing her name had been cleared. Jon Ramsey believes his daughter’s killer is still at large, but that the trail has gone cold.
John Ramsey will share more of his story on Nightline, Thursday night after abc40’s Eleven @ 11.
