BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (WGGB) — A serious head-on crash in Belchertown has sent two people to the hospital.
It happened around 7:30 a.m. on State Street. Police say that a minivan crossed the center line into the path of the other car.
Each car only had one occupant – the driver.
The driver of the minivan was taken to Baystate Medical Center. The driver of the sedan suffered from more serious injuries.
Belchertown Police Sgt. William Panto says, “The other person was trapped in the vehicle with a leg injury and the Jaws of Life had to be used to cut the roof open and extract the victim out.” That person was taken by LifeFlight to UMass Medical Center in Worcester.
Police closed off a portion of State Street for a couple of hours this morning while they reconstructed the scene.
Police say they are still investigating what happened.
