New Details Emerge on Chicopee Shooter, I.D. Released
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WGGB) – Police have identified the man who allegedly shot and injured a State Trooper Friday.
He has been identified by State Police at 41-year-old Carlos Laguer of Springfield.
An investigation by troopers assigned to the Hampden County District Attorney’s office and Chicopee Police shows that Laguer had some sort of connection to the woman and boy in the first floor apartment on West Street, where he was found dead.
Outside of saying there is a connection, State Police are not commenting further on Laguere’s connection to those two.
Laguer was found dead from gunshot wounds in that first floor apartment after a over two hour standoff Friday morning.
However, the investigation is still ongoing on whether Laguer was hit by gunfire from police, whether he shot himself, or both.
State Police say that during the shootout, Laguer shot at officers from the West Street home using a rifle, and police returned fire in self-defense.
In addition to Trooper John Vasquez being hit by the gunfire, bullets also hit a state police cruiser and Chicopee police cruiser.
State Police will also investigate whether Laguer’s entry into the home was a act of domestic violence.
