ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — George Zimmerman’s attorney says a website created to raise money for his legal defense has raised more than $200,000.
Mark O’Mara said on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360 Thursday night that he learned about the money on Wednesday and will inform a judge at a Friday hearing.
Zimmerman, who has been charged with second-degree murder in the Feb. 26 shooting of Trayvon Martin, was released from jail this week after paying 10 percent of $150,000 bail.
O’Mara says the bail amount may have been higher if the judge knew Zimmerman had raised $200,000.
The website used to raise the money has since been shut down, but O’Mara said he’ll likely start a new defense fund for Zimmerman.
O’Mara did not immediately return a Thursday evening phone message by The Associated Press.

i will never condone violence or the killing of anyone, i myself am a gun owner, i have a license to carry with no restrictions. i personally dont feel like i need to carry a firearm around with me, and i dont because of this situation that has occurred in florida. I think many are at fault in this situation, i think the “stand your ground law” is very vague and doesnt really have an explanation, i also do not know the exact circumstances of the occurrence other than the 911 call to police by zimmerman, and really, nobody does, no witnesses came forward cause if they had this case would possibly be more clear cut than it is. I do know that zimmerman should have stopped following trayvon once he called police and police told him to stop following trayvon. i definitely feel that just from that, it shows that zimmerman instigated the situation that ensued. regardless of whether or not trayvon confronted zimmerman. its just really sad.

Simply put, he was/is a bully with a gun…. he wasn’t in his own private home to have the “Stand your ground” law to come into action. He broke the law when he chose to not back down. Why are criminals like this allowed to waste everyone’s time, money, and effort? It could all be spent nurturing parents so they inturn can nurute their children…
Apparently you’re not very familiar with Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, huh? In Florida you don’t need to be in your home to protect yourself from what you may deem a threat. In fact, the threat of bodily harm is enough to use deadly force. Moreover, the law doesn’t require that the person feeling threatened attempts to retreat before using deadly force.

People are allowed to donate money to whatever they want. And everybody is entitled to fair representation, so of you don’t agree with it don’t donate money that’s all there is to it.
Stand your ground and the castle doctrine are two totally separate laws learn what your talking about before you look dumb!
The stand your ground law doesn’t require you to back down either that’s exactly why its named as such.
Who would give this nut money. Too bad those same people wouldn’t donate that much money to curing any number of diseases.
Hope he does not think he’s entitled to a public defender. He needs to use that money to pay for his own bail. His parents should not have to risk the loss of their home. People can donate to any cause that That they wish. Hope they are never in the situation that the martin family have to try and get through.
