In a statement released this morning, Agawam Police Lt. Richard Light says Officer Danielle Petrangelo has been placed on administrative leave.
Police say Officer Petrangelo and Officer Thomas Forgues were first on scene when a call came in about a possible breaking and entry and domestic dispute at the Elizabeth Manor Apartments on Maple Street in Agawam.
When the officers approached the residence, they heard breaking glass and yelling from inside the apartment. Police say when entering the apartment, Officer Petrangelo’s gun discharged. The bullet hit a female inside.
The suspect police were there to apprehend fled out the back of the apartment. Police say he has since been captured.
The woman, who is also pregnant, was transported to Baystate Medical Center for immediate treatment for a non-life threatening injury.
Both Officers Petrangelo and Forgues are currently on administrative leave since the incident.
Officer Petrangelo is an 11 year veteran of the force while Officer Forgues is a 6 year veteran. Both work a 12:00 am to 8:00 am shift.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police unit assigned to the Hampden County District Attorney’s office.
