Bird with Two Heads, Three Beaks Found in Northampton

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WGGB) – Northampton resident April Britt says it was the sound of squawking birds that led she and her husband to investigate what was going on in their backyard. The reason for the commotion – a baby female Cardinal perched on a branch with 2 heads and 3 beaks.

“My husband says ‘Oh my God. Look at this poor thing! That’s an oddity if I ever saw one.'” Britt tells ABC40. “I’ve never seen anything like that before.”

Britt says she has lived in her Hinckley Street home for 26 years.

An avid bird watcher and animal lover, she says she has never come across such a creature.

Snapping a few photos, Britt went back inside the house, only to return a few hours later to find the bird on the ground.

Concerned about a hungry neighborhood cat, Britt put on a plastic glove and placed the little bird high up in the tree. She says the chick was gone the next morning.

Due to its deformity, Britt says she is concerned the little bird won’t survive once the parents stop feeding it.

“I would like to know he survived.” Britt says. “The neighbor is going to keep an eye to see if she sees her.”
