Springfield Bishop Will Ordain Six Men to the Priesthood on Saturday

Springfield, Mass. (WGGB) —  It’s something the Springfield Roman Catholic Diocese hasn’t seen in nearly three decades.

This Saturday 6 men will be ordained to the priesthood.

That’s the largest class in 29 years.

Priests’ numbers in the area have declined in recent years leaving them spread thin.

Diocesan Spokesman Mark Dupont says this will help existing priests and invigorate the parishes, “You know a lot of people these days say the Catholic church is in decline, I think this is great evidence that is really a falsehood.”

The soon-to-be priests come from a variety of backgrounds, two from other faiths, one was a dairy farmer, and another came all the way from Poland because he wanted to be a part of the Catholic Community in Western Mass.
