Child Recovering after Fall from Fifth Story Window

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) —  Police say a 10-year old girl fell out a fifth floor window on Girard Avenue in Springfield while visiting her aunt.

It happened around 5:30 Sunday night.  The girl was taken to Baystate Medical Center with broken bones.  Her current condition is unknown.

No one saw the girl fall but a man who found her on the ground called police

“It definitely opened up my eyes even more,” said Corey Singleton who lives nearby.

“I know the parents are devastated by it. Everybody in the building is devastated about it.”

According to a 2011 report, nearly 5,000 children fall out window’s each year.

The Department of Children and Families is currently investigating the fall.
