Power Coming Back to Over 1,000 Customers in Chicopee

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WGGB) — Mother’s Natures afternoon dose of storms was to blame for a power outage in Chicopee Monday afternoon that left 1,500 customers without electricity.

Jim Lisowski, Engineering and Operations Manager for Chicopee Electric Light, says that, “Lightning strikes caused power to go out to the area of Burnett Road, Fuller Road, Sheridan Street, and the southern end of Memorial Drive.”

“While we don’t have definitive proof exactly where the lightning strikes hit, we believe one [bolt] struck on Fuller Road and another on Memorial Drive based on where the power outages were,” adds Lisowski.

Crews from Chicopee Electric Light were dispatched immediately to restore the electricity when it went out at 4:06 p.m.

As of 5:45 p.m., two-thirds of customers had their electricity back.

The remainder of the outages on Fuller Road and Sheridan Street were expected to be restored by around 6 p.m.
