Temperature Trend Heading Up
SPRINGFIELD, MASS (WGGB) – A cool pool of air will spin across the northeast today into tomorrow. It will keep things a bit unsettled with a few afternoon showers & thunderstorms both days. Although we’ll still see some sunshine, both this afternoon and tomorrow, high temperatures will stay in the 60s & 70s.
On Thursday, the jet stream, the fast river of air high in the sky that divides the cool air from the hot/humid, will lift into Canada and will take the cool temperatures with it. This will allow the warm, humid air, that has been building across the middle part of the country, to stream into western Massachusetts and into much of the northeast.
We’ll start to notice the warm weather by Thursday afternoon. Temperatures will reach into the 80s. At this point it will still be fairly dry and with a more stable atmosphere the shower/thunderstorm threat will be very low. In fact, Thursday is looking like a nearly perfect summer day.
The warm up will continue into Friday. The heat & humidity will build in with temperatures reaching near 90 along with moderate humidity levels. Dew points will be into the lower 60s. Right now it looks as though a weak front could kick off an afternoon thunderstorm. The warm & muggy air will stay with us into the weekend with highs in the middle & upper 80s. It’s still several days away but so far so good!
