State completes 18 projects to improve boat access

BOSTON (AP) — The state has completed 18 projects that aim to give greater boat access to lakes, rivers and coastal areas around the state.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Affairs has announced that the work was valued at about $970,000. It said the work had been done in communities spanning the state, from Barnstable, to Webster, to Chicopee.

The work included construction of new boat ramps, building barrier-free fishing piers and renovations to parking areas.

Department of Fish and Game Commissioner Mary Griffin said more than one million residents and visitors to Massachusetts are recreational boaters and fishermen.

She said the department was pleased the projects were done in time for this boating season.
