Dog Okay After Bear Attack in West Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — West Hartford police are investigating a report that man shot at a bear who was attacking his dog near the Metropolitan District Commission reservoir.

WTIC-TV reports at least one shot was fired, but it wasn’t immediately clear if the bear was struck.

Police Lt. Jeff Rose tells The Hartford Courant the incident was reported at about 6:40 a.m. Monday in a wooded area just south of Albany Avenue and Old Stone Crossing. The dog was not seriously injured, but was brought to a local veterinarian to be checked out.

The bear has not been found.
