New Springfield Superintendent Welcomed by Latino Community
July 19th, 2012
Springfield, Mass. (WGGB) — The Latino Breakfast Club and the Puerto Rican/Latino Leadership Council welcomed Springfield’s New Superintendent Thursday night.
The reception was held at the Fort Restaurant in Springfield and honored Daniel Warwick.
Representative Cheryl Coakley-Rivera says the community is there to support him but they know there are many challenges ahead.
“We have 10 under performing schools in the city. That’s not acceptable by his standards or any of our standards, so he’s working to improve those numbers. We also have a dropout rate that’s higher than the graduation rate, so there are a lot of challenges,” says Coakley-Rivera
Warwick was born and raised in Springfield.
He’s also worked as a teacher within the school system.
