West Springfield Customers Have Power Back

West Springfield, Mass. (WGGB) — A number of residents in West Springfield were left without power after tree limbs fell on some power lines on Amostown Road causing brush fires to pop up.

The West Springfield Fire Department told us that trees took primary power lines down in that area and that wires caused sparks to go down to the ground. Those sparks then started numerous brush fires in the area which took Fire fighters a few minutes to put out.

The incident occurred just before 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

According to the Western Mass Electric Company, 971 customers were without power for over an hour.

As of 10:40 p.m. electricity had been returned to most of the customers who lost it.
