Palmer, Mass. (WGGB) — The Monson Police Department says the suspicious package that was found at the Magic Lantern on Wilbraham Street on the town lines of Monson and Palmer has been determined to be a hoax.
That’s according to Monson Police Chief, Stephen Kozloski who says, “One of the owners of the Magic Lantern Bar called to report that he observed a vehicle pull up to a dumpster at the rear of the property. One of the occupants exited the vehicle and walked briefly behind the dumpster before he got back into the vehicle and left. When the owner walked to the rear of the dumpster to investigate, he observed a cylindrical object with a packet duct taped to the exterior of the cylinder.”
The call was received at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The Monson Police and Fire Department arrived on scene within minutes, locating the object quickly. The area around the device was secured and the State Fire Marshall’s Office and the State Police Bomb Squad were called in to help assist in the situation.
“After examining the object it was determined that it posed no threat but appeared to have been constructed as a hoax device. The object was secured and all personnel cleared the scene by approximately 10 p.m.,” added Kozloski.
During the incident police blocked off traffic from entering the business and kept everyone inside the building as a safety precaution.
Police continue to investigate the incident.
