Easthampton, Mass. (WGGB) — Over two dozen employees from Berry Plastics Corporation in Easthampton are being laid-off because the company no longer has the hours for them to work.
Berry Plastics made the announcement today saying 26 employees would be losing their jobs.
“Due to the recent streamlining of manufacturing processes, coupled with soft consumer demand, Berry Plastics Corporation is reducing its hourly workforce,” explains Eva Schmitz, spokesperson for Berry Plastics Corporation.
The company which produces extruded tubes for a variety of markets employs about 350 people and is part of the Company’s Rigid Closed Top Division.
Schmitz adds that they will work diligently to assist those interested in securing employment at other Berry Plastics plants or within the local labor market.

Why don’t they offer early out to employees near retirement age instead of laying off people who most likely will not be able to find a new job. Which then will make them lose their home or apartment and or car, plus medical insurance. What is wrong with this company.
I think if they are gonna lay people off then they should also do it at the begining of there shift not have them work 11 of there 12 hrs then walk them out.
Berry Plastics has always LOVED recycling people through their doors.
From what my coworkers told me its at least twice the number of people reported laid off.
