SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Kevin O’Hare, the Springfield Republican’s senior music writer died Saturday after a lengthy illness.
Kevin began his career with the newspaper as a sportwriter in 1982 and later worked as a reporter covering his hometown of Holyoke.
His biggest love was music.
He wrote album reviews and conducted in depth interviews for the paper for some four decades.
His interview subjects ranged from Paul McCartney to Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel and countless others.
In addition to writing for the Republican, Kevin was also the director of public relations for the Holyoke Medical Center.
He was an avid Red Sox fan and coached youth baseball in Holyoke and Southampton.
Kevin leaves his wife, Sue; their three sons, Sean, Nicholas and Ryan; and his mother, Claire O’Hare.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton St., Holyoke. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Church, 33 Adams St., Easthampton. Burial will be private.
Kevin O’Hare was 55.
