Police Investigate Crash that Damaged Jonathan’s Sports World

Hadley, Mass. (WGGB) — Jonathan’s Sports World in Hadley will be closed this weekend because of car that crashed into the store Thursday evening.

That’s according to the owner, Jonathan Levin-Epstein.

Officers responded to the shop located at 331 Russell Street, after they received a call at 6:12 p.m. for a 2009 Subaru that had crashed into the sports shop.

Sgt. Shanley told us, “The operator was traveling West on Russell Street and then at some point he crossed over the eastbound lane crashing into the store front. The operator of the car was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The store was not open at the time.”

The Amherst Ambulance and Hadley Fire Department responded to assist.

Shanley says the driver of the vehicle, 24 year-old Taylor Spear from Feeding Hills, has been released from the hospital.

Damage to the store which was closed Friday is estimated to be several thousand dollars. Items inside the store were damaged as well as the structure itself.

Shanley adds that the building inspector checked out the property and determined that significant damage was done to the load bearing beams.

No word yet on if Spear will face any charges.

Police continue to investigate the crash.
