A recent annual tradition in the state, the sales tax holiday will begin on Saturday and last through Sunday.
During the event Massachusetts shoppers will be able to buy certain items, costing up to $2,500, tax-free. Restaurant meals and tobacco will not be tax exempt.
Housing and Economic Development Secretary Gregory Bialecki said he believes the tax holiday will help Massachusetts businesses boost their revenues during a time when sales are typically low.
Bialecki said the state looks to give up an estimated $20 million in tax revenue during the two-day long event.
