SPRINGFIELD (WGGB) – Springfield Police say a serial car thief who likes to operate under cover of night has been positively identified after leaving traces of blood at the scene of a break-in last year.
“If there’s evidence in the car that can connect a suspect to a B&E (breaking and entering), we’ll do it.” Sergeant John Delaney says.
Police say 40-year-old Angel Rivera, who also goes by the name of Miguel, broke into a vehicle outside the Morgan House Apartment building in downtown Springfield last summer. When he broke through the window, he slashed his hand open and bled all over the seats.
When police arrived on scene they took samples of the blood and brought them to a lab.
“This isn’t CSI where you get blood samples and boom – 24 hours later they’re back.” Sgt. Delaney explains.
Instead, the positive I.D. on Rivera came a couple months later. Police are looking to arrest him and believe him to still be in downtown Springfield. They say he has a criminal history with several arrests and convictions on breaking and entering.
