Crime Files: Joel Gallego

SPRINGFIELD (WGGB) – Once the mastermind behind a major credit card crime spree, 28-year-old Joel Gallego now has 4 warrants out for his arrest. He faces multiple charges, including dozens of counts of larceny and breaking and entering vehicles.

Police say Gallego likes to target the cars of people at work or at the gym. He’ll break-in and steal any credit cards that may have been left inside.

“He was breaking into cars at a gym near Allen and Cooley Street in Springfield and at the parking lot of Baystate Medical Center.” Sergeant John Delaney of the Springfield Police Department explains. “As soon as they’d do that they’d go to the Walmart on Boston Road.”

It was at that Walmart Supercenter location that Gallego and his friends used the stolen credit cards to steal thousands of dollars worth of merchandise. The crime-routine was done several times at the same store. Pretty soon, security cameras inside and outside the store had a positive I.D. on the criminals. Police say store employees were given photographs of the men, and asked to keep an eye out.

“The last time they came to do this, in this Walmart – clerks saw what was going on.” Sgt. Delaney says. “They called the police right away.”

Police arrested Gallego and a search of his vehicle uncovered all the stolen items (from that trip) and stolen credit cards. Gallego was able to make bail and hasn’t shown up for his court appearance to answer to a laundry list of charges.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of Joel Gallego text an anonymous tip to C-R-I-M-E-S. Police believe him to still be in Springfield.
