1 Dead in New Milford, CT House Explosion

NEW MILFORD, Conn. (AP) — Police say one person has died and at least two others have been taken to hospitals after a gas explosion at a house in New Milford.

The Danbury News-Times reports that police are searching for another person who may be trapped in the rubble of the house.

The newspaper said the house was leveled, leaving only the chimney standing, at about 7 p.m. The site is on Sunny Valley Road near the intersection of Sunny Valley Lane.

Eric Bailey, who lives nearby, told the News-Times he and his family were sitting down to dinner when they felt the explosion.

He said, “I thought a plane or car ran into our house. The entire house just — boom! — shook.”
