Northbridge Coach Becomes Third Ever in Mass. to Reach 300 Win Mark

SOUTHBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) — Northbridge High School football coach Ken LaChapelle has become the first in state history to win 300 games at one school, and just the third overall to reach the 300-win plateau.

LaChapelle reached the milestone Sunday as Northbridge beat Southbridge 42-12. Two of his grandsons scored touchdowns.

Victory number 300 came just two days before the anniversary of his first, a 33-0 win over Uxbridge on Oct. 2, 1976.

The only other coaches in state history with 300 wins are Bill Broderick (304 wins at Rindge Tech, Haverhill and Salem) and Armond Colombo (323 wins at Archbishop Williams and Brockton).

LaChapelle tells The Telegram & Gazette he tried not to think about how much the game meant but was glad he got to enjoy it with family.
