Solutia Fined by State for Emissions Violation

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) –The state has fined Springfield’s Solutia Incorporated $39,000.

According to the Department of Environemental Protection, Solutia violated some of the state’s air pollution control laws.

If Solutia fixed the emissions problem, the state says they will only be fined $33,000.

Late Wednesday afternoon, Wanda Valentine, spokesperson for Solutia’s parent company Eastman Chemical, released this statement:

“These items were self-reported deviations as a result of the site’s Semi-Annual Title V compliance certification report. Any deviation found as a result of this work have been investigated and corrective actions put in place to prevent recurrence. As a facility that is certified to the Responsible Care 14001 Environmental management system standard, we are committed to the continual improvement of our environmental performance and meeting or exceeding all applicable environmental regulations and standards. The resulting corrective actions have been completed and are now part of our operating systems.”
