International Breast Cancer Photo Project Comes to Northampton

Northampton, Mass. (WGGB) — October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to honor that, the “Open Hearted” photo essay was displayed Wednesday night at the Garden House in Look Park.

The project was created by Brazilian Journalist Vera Golik.

It’s a more humanistic approach to the disease, detailing the shock of diagnosis, to overcoming the illness and getting stronger.

Golik says what matters most is not the outcome, but how women cope with the disease.

“Be a warrior and a winner. Not only survive, because maybe you don’t, all of us will die someday, but we have to not be sad about it,” explained Golik.

She is a Global Ambassador for the American Cancer Society.

This project was also displayed at the United Nations Headquarters in Brazil.
