PALMER, Mass. (WGGB) — Passengers boarded a special train in Palmer Thursday, bringing attention to the need for enhanced rail service.
The Central Corridor Passenger Rail Coalition staged the train excursion to show an opportunity for quality rail service in central Massachusetts.
The event highlighted the rail infrastructure already in place and the relatively modest cost to change the passenger rail profile for thousands of new englanders.
“We look at this corridor as complimentary to the knowledge corridor. It will serve a whole different body of people, and the concept we’ve come up with is to have a loop system basically that will serve all of central Mass., Connecticut, and Vermont,” says Blake Lamothe, Chairman of the Palmer Redevelopment Authority.
Palmer would serve as the service hub for the central corridor.
