Honda recalls 2002-2006 CR-V SUVs due to fire risk

Honda Motor has issued a recall alert for the CR-V small sport utility vehicles says the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The 2002-2006 model year versions of the Honda SUV may have a faulty power window switch that may lead to a fire.

According to the NHTSA, the power window switch on the driver’s door of the Honda CR-V model may overheat, smoke and melt, leading to a possible fire. What’s more, the fire may occur when the SUVs are parked and turned off.

Honda says it will begin in November to notify CR-V owners affected by this recall. Mechanics at local dealerships will inspect and replace driver’s side power window switches for free.

Until repairs are made, Honda advises owners to park their CR-Vs outside as a precaution.

For more information, U.S. consumers can call American Honda customer support toll-free (800-999-1009) and reference the company’s internal safety campaign number, S61.
