MGM Springfield Blankets Area, Local Attractions with Sponsorships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WGGB) — MGM Springfield is on the air with ads, and now they’re on Main Street with a new community office set to open Tuesday.

“We’re just living and breathing our corporate philosophy of being apart of the community,” MGM Eastern Division Vice-President of Public Affairs Kelley Tucky said.

Ameristar, Hard Rock, and Penn National, all companies interested in building a Springfield casino, have yet to launch ad campaigns.

MGM, meanwhile, plastered the MassMutual Center ice with four ads just in time for the Falcons opening weekend.

“We’re the prime tenant here in the building,” Springfield Falcons President and General Manager Bruce Landon said. “We’ve had professional hockey here for over 70 years so they looked at us, I think, as a nice place to brand their business and get involved with us and we’d be crazy not to do that.”

MGM says they’re not afraid to think about outside the box either.

They’re sponsoring a Six Flags Zombie Fright Run this weekend.

“Through the course there are 12 different obstacles,” Six Flags spokeswoman Melissa Pinkerton said. “You’re climbing, you’re rappelling down to the Connecticut River. It’s going to be intense. Added to that intensity, we’re going to have zombies chasing you.”

None of the four companies have officially submitted phase one casino plans due to the city this week.

MGM says while other casino developers aren’t launching ad campaigns, staying quiet in the community isn’t their philosophy.

Corporate partners, meanwhile, aren’t complaining.

“To be a strong community partner, you need to get engaged,” Tucky said. “We want to hear from people, so it’s been a two way communication.”

“We have thousands of people that come through our park each day so these guests are getting great exposure to these incredible brands,” Pinkerton said. “We’re excited for the partnership.”
