Woburn Firefighter Helps Deliver Nephew
WOBURN, Mass. (CNN) — A woman in Massachusetts got the shock of her pregnancy when her unexpected labor turned into a family event.
Her husband’s uncle had to help her give birth.
At just two days old, little Kevin Doucette already has quite the story to tell.
“I still can’t believe that it happened.”
Mom Jessica was at her mother-in-law’s home in Woburn friday when all of a sudden she went into labor.
“I called my doctor. She told me to call 911, so we put the call in. The firefighters came.”
Jessica had no idea her husband’s uncle would be the first to walk into the home.
Kevin Flaherty is a Woburn firefighter. He just so happened to be the first to respond to Jessica’s 911 call.
“My mother-in-law ran downstairs and was yelling, ‘Kevin, Kevin hurry up.’ I was like, oh God, it’s Uncle Kevin.”
“We ran in and did what we had to do. On a level it went pretty good between 1 to 10, it was a 9 and a half.”
Within seconds Kevin Flaherty helped Jessica deliver a healthy little boy, and if you haven’t already realized, these two share the same name.
“Kevin was going to be the middle name after my brother, but then we decided it was a sign that he needed to be named Kevin as a first name because of his uncle being such a big part.”
“It’s a nice little retirement present for me, on the way out. I thought I was just going to ride out into the sunset nice and quietly I guess, but it didn’t happen so — and it’s great.”
“Aw, you couldn’t wait to come into this world.”
Firefighter Kevin retires in a few months after 30 years on the force. He says this was his first home delivery.
