LUDLOW, Mass. (WGGB) — An elderly man was seriously hurt after a Tuesday afternoon crash on a busy Ludlow street.
Ludlow Police Sgt. Daniel Valadas says that just before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a two-car accident on East Street near Ventura Street after receiving multiple calls.
The impact of the crash caused one of the cars to catch fire.
The unidentified elderly man, who was one of the drivers, was taken to Baystate Medical Center with what are described as serious injuries. The person in the other car was not injured.
Both vehicles that were involved, a van and a white sedan, have been placed in impound.
Traffic was detoured both east and westbound on East Street, around the accident scene, for 3 hours while Ludlow and State Police investigated and reconstructed the accident.
The Red Bridge area between Ludlow and Wilbraham also had to be closed to traffic but this has since been opened back up.
WMECO and Verizon crews are remaining on scene to make repairs to a utility pole that had been sheared during the accident.
The Hampden Country District Attorney’s Office and police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this crash.

stop rushing people and pay attention to the road!!!
oh man, that looks pretty bad
You use the term “serious” rather loosely here. The airbags didn’t deploy and the crumple zones are still intact. That was a 15 mph impact, at best.
how do u know the airbags didnt deploy]
another elderly man hmmm
I guess it was pretty serious if the driver died. I don’t think the term “serious” was used too loosely. And I don’t think the man’s family will think that either.
Christina, I agree. Matt’s comment was a tad insensitive.
